ICT Division observed the Sheikh Russell Day
On the occasion of the 59th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak paid tribute by placing a wreath at Sheikh Russell's portrait. Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam and various project heads were present during the wreath-laying ceremony at the portrait installed at ICT Tower on Tuesday (October 18) morning.
Earlier, the State Minister participated in the procession on the occasion of the inauguration of Sheikh Russell Day 2022 and Sheikh Russell Medal awarding ceremony. Sheikh Russell Shishu-Kishore Parishad President KM Shahidullah, a2i Project Director Dewan Muhammad Humayun, Digital Security Agency (DSA) Director General Khairul Amin, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority Managing Director Bikarna Kumar Ghosh and other officials participated in the colorful rally from in front of the Planning Commission to BICC premises.
Meanwhile, Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, the defeated force of independence, killed Bangabandhu and his family. Among them was a pure heart of 10-year-old innocent child Russell. We are observing this day nationally to inspire every child and teenager in the spirit of liberation war by paying respect to him. Today Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate one school of future in 300 parliamentary constituency each and 5000 more Sheikh Russell Digital Labs across the country.
Also, as part of the National Day celebrations, pigeons were released in front of the Bangabandhu International Conference Center around 9 am by the Division of Information and Communication Technology. Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Sheikh Russell Day by joining BICC's Hall of Fame virtually at 10 o'clock. At the beginning of the program, he released Sheikh Russell's childhood memory album. Then the Minister of State awarded the Sheikh Russell Medal.
At the same venue at 2:30 pm, a national seminar titled "The brutal killing of Sheikh Russell is a black chapter in the path of justice, peace and progress" was held.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina started observing this national day by paying flowers at Sheikh Russell's tomb at Banani graveyard early in the morning. Bangabandhu's youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana was also present with her. After offering the wreath, these two daughters of Bangabandhu stood in silence for a while. Later they sprinkled flower petals on the graves of relatives buried there.
